Maintenance Mode

Control when visitors are allowed to view your website

Your site can be disabled for maintenance. This allows you to block site access for visitors so that visitors don't see incremental updates as you change things around (like reorganizing products into new categories). For instance if you want to update your logo, colors, and featured products all at once for a Halloween sale, you can enable maintenance mode and make the changes.

Maintenance Mode Setting

On the GoCart Settings Page you will see a section called "Maintenance Mode".

Maintenance Mode Setting

If you toggle the switch to the 'On' position, visitors will not be able to access your site. If you toggle it off, visitors will be able to access your site.

Maintenance Mode Enabled

When maintenance mode is enabled, visitors will see a page informing them the site is unavailable. You can customize the message by entering text in the "Maintenance Message" field which appears when maintenance mode is enabled.

Maintenance Mode Setting

The page the visitor sees when maintenance mode is enabled looks like this:

Maintenance Mode Page

Site Owner Preview

As the site owner, you can preview your site even when maintenance mode is enabled by clicking the "Preview Site" button. This will open a new tab, allowing you to browser your site without any restrictions.

Maintenance Mode Preview

You will notice a banner at the bottom of the page. This is to remind you that your site is in maintenance mode, and that you are viewing the site with elevated privileges. You can exit the preview by clicking the "Exit Preview" button. This will return you to your live site - the site that your visitors see, and the banner will disappear. This does NOT affect the maintenance mode setting - this only disables the preview for your browser.

Maintenance Mode Exit Preview

NOTE: When you enable or disable maintenance mode, your site is immediately affected. However, when you adjust the maintenance message, you need to click the "Save Changes" button to update your site.
